Medicine Shoppe robbery suspect arrested

A 24-year-old Deer Park was booked in the Spokane County Jail on a first-degree robbery charge stemming from the robbery he allegedly committed at the Deer Park Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy on Feb. 21.
Detectives interviewed Aaron Miller and he confessed to two additional robberies at the Medicine Shoppe that occurred on Dec. 5 and 30.
Miller displayed what appeared to be a weapon during the Dec. 5 robbery and demanded Oxycodone medication, according to detectives.

Preliminary date set in Starbuck murder trial

A preliminary April 16 court date has been set for a Deer Park man who was arrested on Feb. 6 in connection with the death of his ex-wife.
Clay Starbuck pled not guilty to the charge of aggravated first-degree murder of Chanin Starbuck in Spokane County Superior Court on Feb. 21.
Starbuck will remain in jail after Judge Annette Plese refused to lower his $1 million bond. His attorney, Derek Reid, had asked for a bail reduction based on Starbuck’s family ties and no prior criminal convictions.

School districts to begin levy failure postmortems

The Deer Park and Riverside School District officials will begin assessing what went wrong with their various levy requests last week.
Voters rejected Deer Park’s three-year, $2 million annual maintenance and operations levy along with Riverside’s $2.55 million educational programs and operations and $1.2 million facilities and technology capital projects levies.
Deer Park voters rejected the M&O levy 1,697-1,645. A simple majority is needed for passage.

'Yes' votes gain momentum in Deer Park levy election

The Deer Park School District officials received some good news following a second round of ballot counts for its $1.96 million annual replacement maintenance and operations levy
The gap between yes and no votes shrunk on Wednesday afternoon it is still is short of the 50 percent approval needed for passage.
The measure now trails 1,615-1,559.
Riverside’s $3.27 million annual educational program was rejected 2,195-1,389 by voters as of Wednesday. The school district’s $1.28 million capital projects levy trailed 2,431-1,186.

More charges await Starbuck

Deer Park’s Clay D. Starbuck, 47, who was arrested on Feb. 6 in connection with his ex-wife’s murder, was formally charged with aggravated first-degree murder on Thursday in Spokane County Superior Court.
He was subsequently charged with sexually violating human remains on Friday after detectives believe Starbuck placed his wife’s body in a sexually suggestive pose after he killed her.
